Shangfeng Du is Professor of Electrochemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK, leading electrochemical engineering research for energy applications. He graduated from Tsinghua University in Materials Science and Engineering, and obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. After a research associate in PML at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research, Germany, he joined the University of Birmingham as a Marie Curie Research Fellow, collaborating with Prof Kevin Kendall FRS, establisher of the JKR theory. He was promoted to a full professor in 2024. His research focuses on the development and evaluation of electrodes, PTLs, composite membranes, MEAs and short stacks, as well as their application and degradation research for fuel cells and electrolysers. He has been leading a few EU, UKRI and industrial projects, (co-)authored several books and more than 80 research papers. He serves as Editoral Board Members of a few journals, e.g., Journal of Power Sources, Automotive Innovation, etc.
