Fueling Europe’s clean transition: European Hydrogen Innovation Cluster
07.11.2025

Seven EU projects, including HERMES, join forces to accelerate hydrogen innovation and deliver real-world impact.
Hydrogen is unlocked by separating it from other elements. But to realise its full potential for the energy transition, it takes connection – uniting expertise, innovation, and commitment across borders.
That is the purpose of the European Hydrogen Innovation Cluster: an alliance bringing together pioneering European initiatives to accelerate clean hydrogen research and technologies. Among them is HERMES, which collaborates with six sister projects to amplify impact and transform innovation into real solutions for a sustainable future. The other participating projects are:
- ANDREAH: Creates advanced ammonia cracking technology to deliver ultra-pure hydrogen at lower costs.
- AMBHER: Develops green ammonia for long-term energy storage and MOF-based materials for short-term hydrogen storage.
- APOLO: Designs ammonia-to-hydrogen systems for fuel cells and engines to decarbonise the maritime sector.
- CARMA-H2: Develops a protonic membrane reformer to produce purified, pressurized hydrogen and food-grade CO₂, demonstrated at a wastewater treatment plant in Spain.
- HYIELD: Aims to convert biogenic waste into ultra-pure green hydrogen, with a demonstration plant at CEMEX’s cement factory in Spain.
- MEASURED: Demonstrates advanced membranes for gas separation and carbon capture in industrial settings.
